avidemux requires a DivX compatible encoder and the Gimp Toolkit
(GTK) libraries.
          

avifile (AVI player)

Avifile attempts to provide a working implementation of a few
multimedia-related utilities for x86 Linux. DivX ;-), Indeo Video,
I263, and others, able to show subtitles and perform video output
using YUV overlays when necessary support from hardware and
operating system is available. It is also able to play most files
in ASF format, and current development code is capable of
streaming ASF media over HTTP!

FFmpeg (video converter)

FFmpeg is a very fast video and audio converter. It can also grab
from a live audio/video source. The command line interface is
designed to be intuitive, in the sense that FFmpeg tries to figure
out all parameters that can possibly be derived automatically. You
usually only have to specify the target bitrate you want.
FFmpeg can also convert from any sample rate to any other, and
resize video on the fly with a high quality polyphase filter.
          

ffmpegthumbnailers (create thumbnails from video files)

FFmpegthumbnailer is a lightweight video thumbnailer that can be
used by file managers to create thumbnails for your video files. The
thumbnailer uses ffmpeg o decode frames from the video files, so
supported videoformats depend on the configuration flags of ffmpeg.

This thumbnailer was designed to be as fast and lightweight as
possible. The only dependencies are ffmpeg and libpng.

gavl (a library for handling uncompressed audio and video data)

Gavl is a library for handling and converting uncompressed audio

need only the GTK2 runtime libraries to run Geany.
          

gecko-mediaplayer (Multimedia browser plugin for Gecko based browsers)

Gecko Media Player is a browser plugin that uses GNOME MPlayer to
play media in a browser. It should work with all browsers on
Unix-ish systems(Linux, BSD, Solaris) and use the NS4 API (Mozilla,
Firefox, Opera, etc.). Gecko Media Player is in heavy development,
but I wanted to get some code drops out there so that people can
start using and testing it.

Fix-CA is a Gimp plug-in to correct chromatic aberration (CA). For

information from Wikipedia and writings by Paul van Walree. Fix-CA
is able to fix lateral CA caused by lens and colored fringing
caused by light travel through dense material such as glass and
water (which is called directional CA in the program). 
          

gimp-plugins-gmic (GREYC's Magic Image Converter)

This project aims at defining a minimal but powerful script language
(G'MIC) dedicated to image processing. The interpreter of this
language is distributed as an open-source module/library embeddable
in third-party applications. G'MIC can be used to define complex
image processing pipelines for converting, manipulating, filtering
and visualizing generic 1D/2D/3D multi-spectral image datasets.
Of course, it is able to manage color images, but also more complex
data as image sequences or 3D volumetric data.

gimp-plugins-wavelet-denoise (a wavelet denoise plugin for The GIMP)

The wavelet denoise plugin for The GIMP is an algorithm copied and
slightly altered from the UFRaw program (which inherited the
algorithm from dcraw). Instead of denoising all RGB channels at once
the plugin implementation allows to denoise the RGB channels
individually and - even more useful - to denoise the YCbCr or CIELAB
channels individually. The colour model conversions are nearly
lossless as the internal calculations are done in floating point
numbers and rounding errors are avoided.

usually only have to specify the target bitrate you want.
libav can also convert from any sample rate to any other, and
resize video on the fly with a high quality polyphase filter.

libdrm (a framework to allow direct access to graphics hardware)

DRI is a framework to allow direct access to graphics hardware under
the X Windows System in a safe and efficient manner. It includes
changes to the X server, to several client libraries, and to the
kernel (DRM, Direct Rendering Manager). The most important use for
the DRI is to create fast OpenGL implementations providing hardware

libgc (A garbage collector for C/C++)

The Boehm-Demers-Weiser conservative garbage collector can
be used as a garbage collecting replacement for C malloc or
C++ new. It allows you to allocate memory basically as you
normally would, without explicitly deallocating memory that
is no longer useful.

The collector automatically recycles memory when it determines
that it can no longer be otherwise accessed.

libjpeg (Independent JPEG Group's JPEG software)

Software to implement JPEG image compression and decompression. JPEG
(pronounced 'jay-peg') is a standardized compression method for
full-color and gray-scale images.  JPEG is intended for compressing
'real-world' scenes; cartoons and other non-realistic images are not
its strong suit.  JPEG is lossy, however, on typical images of
real-world scenes, very good compression levels can be obtained with
no visible change, and amazingly high compression levels are
possible if you can tolerate a low-quality image.
          

libkate (codec for the Kate bitstream format)

This is libkate, the reference implementation of a codec for the
Kate bitstream format. Kate is a karaoke and text codec meant for

animate them.

libsigc++ (Typesafe Callback Framework for C++)

The Typesafe Callback Framework for C++

libsigc++ implements a typesafe callback system for standard C++. It
allows you to define signals and to connect those signals to any
callback function, either global or a member function, regardless of
whether it is static or virtual.
libsigc++ is used by gtkmm to wrap the GTK+ signal system. It does
not depend on GTK or gtkmm.
          

libsndfile (read and write files containing sampled audio data)

libsndfile is a library of C routines for reading and writing 
files containing sampled audio data. 
          

libsoup (HTTP library implementation in C)

Soup is an HTTP library implementation in C. It was originally part
of a SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) implementation, but the
SOAP code was later removed (and then later partially
reimplemented...).
          

libssh (SSH implementation library)

The ssh library was designed to be used by programmers needing a
working SSH implementation by the mean of a library. The complete
control of the client is made by the programmer. With libssh you can
remotely execute programs, transfer files, use a secure and
transparent tunnel for your remote programs. With its Secure FTP
implementation you can play with remote files easily, without third-
party programs other than libcrypto (from openssl).

libtheora (video codec)

Theora is Xiph.Org's first publicly released video codec, intended
for use within the Foundation's Ogg multimedia streaming system.
Theora is derived directly from On2's VP3 codec; Currently the two are
nearly identical, varying only in encapsulating decoder tables in the 
bitstream headers, but Theora will make use of this extra freedom 
in the future to improve over what is possible with VP3.

libvorbis (Ogg Vorbis library)

This library supports the Vorbis General Audio Compression Codec
(commonly known as Ogg Vorbis).  Ogg Vorbis is a fully open,
non-proprietary, patent-and-royalty-free, general-purpose compressed
audio format for audio and music at fixed and variable bitrates.

The libvorbis library requires libao and libogg.  You'll find some
basic tools for creating and using Ogg Vorbis files in the
vorbis-tools package.

libwnck (Window Navigator Construction Kit library)

The Window Navigator Construction Kit library, used by GNOME for

libxcb (X protocol C-language Binding)

The XCB library provides an interface to the X Window System protocol
which is fully capable of replacing Xlib.  In fact, libX11 makes use
of libxcb as much as possible.  :-)  Porting to XCB has several
advantages such as a smaller memory footprint, latency hiding, direct
protocol access, and improved thread support.

lxde-settings is the XSettings daemon of LXDE. It read the config

LXterminal is a VTE-based terminal emulator with support for multiple
tabs. It is completely desktop-independent and does not have any
unnecessary dependencies. In order to reduce memory usage and
increase the performance all instances of the terminal are sharing a
single process.
          

lxdm (a GUI login manager for LXDE)

A lightweight dropped-in replacement for GDM or KDM.
          

MPlayer (movie player)

MPlayer is a movie player for LINUX. It plays many video codecs,

MPlayer supports various types of subtitles formats.

media-player-info (collection of data files describing media player)

media-player-info is a repository of data files describing media
player (only USB Mass Storage ones) capabilities. These files contain
information about the directory layout to use to add music to these
devices, about the supported file formats, ... These capabilities
used to be provided by HAL  in the 10-usb-music-players.fdi file but
had to be moved elsewhere as part of the big HALectomy.
